The Delta County Prosecutor’s office program will use their connection with the School Justice Partnership and work on reducing truancy within Delta County. This work involves collaboration with the Delta County Prosecutor’s office, District Court, Law Enforcement, Delta County area public schools, and local community groups. Together, they will work to reduce truancy rates among students, provide community awareness, and build resources for local students, families, and educators. The program relies on evidence-based research that concludes students who have a high absentee rate are less likely to graduate and more likely to enter the criminal justice system. The School Justice Partnership Program will offer parents of students who are missing 10% or more days of instruction an option to work within a diversion program with truancy officers, service providers and the school to address issues related to their child’s school attendance.
